Thepresidentpost.id - Cikarang, The issue of sustainable development is increasingly important to be prioritized considering the increasingly pronounced impact of climate change. Yes, because the entire chain of economic activity, starting from logistics, manufacturing, energy utilization, and consumption, has put pressure on our environment which has an impact on reducing the carrying capacity of the environment in future economic activities.

Cynthia Hendrayani, COO of PT Jababeka Infrastruktur as the management of the Jababeka Industrial Estate, said, in the water sector for example, urbanization and industrialization in Cikarang require large amounts of energy and water. Water utilization without regard to the environmental impacts that occur, results in a continued decline in the quality and quantity of water resources.

“If it is not maintained properly, then there is a point where existing water resources are no longer able to support existing economic activities, let alone support economic growth,” he explained, Saturday (27/05/2023).

Cynthia added that the concept of sustainable development refers to the development and economic activities to meet current needs without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability is realized by continuing to pay attention to environmental conditions and taking actions in our economic activities that neutralize environmental pressures so that the carrying capacity of the environment can continue to be maintained.

“In the example above, the sustainability of water resources can occur if economic activities can be carried out without causing environmental degradation, by conserving water for example,” said Cynthia.

In the context of the industry in the Jababeka-Cikarang Industrial Estate, Cynthia said, sustainable industries create goods and services while maintaining ecological conditions, focusing on three main pillars, namely: economic, social, and environmental. The sustainable industry proactively prevents, reduces, and neutralizes waste and pollutants that reduce the quality and carrying capacity of the environment.

PT Jababeka Infrastruktur, as the management of the Jababeka Industrial Estate, encourages continued economic activities by encouraging its industry to pay attention to environmental sustainability, by adopting the concept of zero waste, cleaner production, green productivity, or green company.

“Including by making it easier for the industry to carry out environmental monitoring with the existence of environmental laboratories that have been accredited by KAN,” said Cynthia.

Cynthia said, as a concrete step of commitment, Jababeka Infrastruktur – one of the subsidiaries of PT Jababeka Tbk – formed the Jababeka Net Zero Forum to bridge the occurrence of decarbonization in industries in the Jababeka Industrial Estate area. This forum is a forum for companies to share knowledge or knowledge sharing, and accommodate activities that have a greater impact when carried out together in the region.

“Such as waste management and wastewater treatment. An example is by installing PLTS Atap in all its water treatment plants, Jababeka produces low-carbon clean water for all industries in the Jababeka Industrial Estate,” he explained.

“In the future, within the framework of sustainable development and its role as a provider of regional infrastructure (Jababeka industry), Jababeka Infrastruktur will take three main initiatives: namely water circularity, material and energy circularity, and low carbon public transport,” Cynthia added.

Furthermore, Cynthia said, with the water circularity program, Jababeka encourages the conservation and utilization of closed-loop or non-linear water resources. Water that has been utilized, will be treated with a system that produces renewable energy to be re-used as raw water.

Through the material and energy circularity program, waste is used as a renewable energy source that can be utilized by industry, while through the public transport program, the use of fuel for transportation will be systematically reduced.

“Through these three initiatives, Jababeka participates in efforts to ensure the sustainability of its region by ensuring the existence of water, clean energy, and a relatively smoke-free environment for vehicles, in the future,” said Cynthia.
